Wei Liu and Jeroen de Kloet “On the multiple meanings of the Olympic torch relay spectacle”

Last year, we have written extensively here on the Olympic torch relay and have (especially Zhang Juan) tried to approach it as a spectacle. It seems we have not been alone. Here is a piece by Wei Liu and Jeroen de Kloet written for an online magazine. De Kloet has been engaged in a research project on the subject, which has resulted among others in an article in the 2/2008 special issue of China aktuell, which was dedicated to the Olympics. De Kloet, at the University of Amsterdam, is best known for his research on Chinese rock.
