Yan Xuetong on increasing military spending

Putao forwarded a link to an article by Yan Xuetong, the influential nationalist and director of the International Relations Institute at Tsinghua University. The article was published in early 2006 and, on, triggered a lively debate. About 95% of the 804 responses agreed that China had to incrase military spending in order to defend itself from Japan and the US — that these countries were intent to attack it at the first possibility was treated as a given.

Still, there was some interesting dissent: a comment that said China should spend that money on social welfare and introduce democracy instead received 76 clicks “in support” to 75 “against”!
